IVECO: Driving sustainable innovation

In the ever-evolving landscape of commercial vehicles, IVECO stands out as a beacon of innovation and sustainability. With its recent “Be the Change” launch event in Barcelona, the company unveiled a groundbreaking approach to the future of transportation, encapsulating an ambitious strategy that resonates with IVECO’s commitment to driving change.

At the core of IVECO’s transformative journey is a profound investment in sustainability and technological advancement. The company concluded its largest investment cycle, injecting 1 billion euros into R&D, culminating in the complete renewal of its product line. This historic overhaul touches every product category, emphasizing IVECO’s dedication to business productivity, driver experience, sustainability, and connectivity.

A notable highlight from this investment is the introduction of the Model Year 2024 (MY24) range. This range includes the innovative FPT Industrial Cursor 13 multi-fuel engine, which is a testament to IVECO’s commitment to reducing CO2 emissions and enhancing fuel efficiency. These powertrains not only elevate IVECO’s heavy-duty trucks to Class 2 for German toll exemptions but also position some models, especially gas trucks, in Class 3, leading to significant savings for fleet owners.

In a recent interview, IVECO CEO Gerrit Marx underscored the strategic importance of such innovations. “Our approach is holistic, focusing on the vehicle as a smartphone on wheels,” he said, emphasizing the significance of software in their electric trucks. This perspective differentiates IVECO from competitors, offering a unique architecture that is tailor-made for the electric era. The company’s full control over software development, as Marx highlighted, is pivotal in introducing features like autonomous driving and other advanced functionalities.

Marx also touched upon the market’s response to GATE, IVECO’s all-inclusive rental service for green commercial vehicles. This innovative approach, aimed at lowering barriers to adoption of electric vehicles, has seen a positive response, especially for heavy-duty trucks. GATE represents a strategic move towards making electric mobility more accessible and manageable for customers.

Safety and connectivity are other areas where IVECO has made significant strides. With around 100,000 connected IVECO vehicles already on the roads, the company aims to reach half a million by 2030. These vehicles are equipped with AI-driven telematic services, enhancing efficiency and productivity. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) have been incorporated across the range, reinforcing IVECO’s commitment to safety beyond regulatory requirements.

IVECO’s strategic moves extend beyond product innovation. The company’s partnership with Metallica for their M72 World Tour is a bold step in demonstrating the practical application of its green technologies in high-profile, real-world scenarios.

As Luca Sra, President of the Truck Business Unit at Iveco Group, aptly put it, this launch marks the beginning of a new chapter for IVECO, one where the company remains a ‘humble fighter and fearless creator.’

With nearly 50 years of history, IVECO is not just adapting to change – it is actively shaping the future of sustainable commercial transportation, aligning its vision with the evolving needs of a more environmentally conscious worldfull_stop
